The Department of Anaesthesia of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital came formally into being from December, 1993 when the first Consultant Anaesthetist and H.O.D. was appointed in the person of Dr. A. O. Oyegunle on 1/12/93 Prior to this date, Anaesthesia was coordinated by other departments and anaesthetic services were given by Nurse Anaesthetist with occasional assistance by Medically qualified anaesthetics principally from UCH - Ibadan.

The Department started as a Unit in 1986 with Dr. Quadri running the Eye Clinic once a week on voluntary basis. He was later joined by Dr. (Mrs.) Onabolu, an Honorary Consultant. The Unit became a full Department in April 1999. The Department has successfully trained nine (9) Consultants Ophthalmologist.

Peadiatrics

The department of paediatrics took off in January 1986 as one of the foundation Clinical departments of the teaching hospital, having a single children ward with 10 cots. With further development in terms of patients turn out and staff strength, the department acquired 3 additional beds and 2 phototherapy units by July 1986. The Inital staff strength was Consultant 1, SHO/Registrars 4, House Officer 3, Senior Nursing Sister 1, Sister 3, Staff Nurses 8.

Most times Pharmacy (OPD) is the last port to be visited by a patient that has come to the hospital for treatment. Pharmacist (Drug Consultants) are therefore placed in a situation where they need to counsel the patients on the usage and the expected side effects of the prescribed drugs. They are also expected to advice the prescribers on drug interaction and or contraindications.

Physiotherapy

The department of Physiotherapy was one of the departments inherited from General Hospital, Sagamu at inception of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in 1986. The department was formally an old Gymnasium but later expanded to what it is now under the headship of Mrs. I.S. Afolabi (the former Head of Department). A lot of transformation has since taken place in the department till date.
